Third Street Music School is the nation’s longest-running community music school, offering quality music and dance instruction for students from ages 2 to 82 in Manhattan’s East Village and at public partner schools across New York City. With opportunities to learn, grow and achieve, Third Street inspires students of all ages to become the best musicians, dancers and composers they can be.
In the words of The New Yorker, “With his winning of the Pulitzer Prize for the little match girl passion (one of the most original and moving scores of recent years), Lang, once a postminimalist enfant terrible, has solidified his standing as an American master.”Other recent projects include the score to Academy Award-winning director Paolo Sorrentino’s new film Youth; man made, a concerto for So Percussion and orchestra co-commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the BBC Symphony; and the whisper opera for International Contemporary Ensemble, which premiered at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and at the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center.Lang is a Professor of Music Composition at the Yale School of Music and is co-founder and co-artistic director of New York’s legendary music festival Bang on a Can.
