Other Info | Sunday, May 05 - 6:00PM SERIAL UNDERGROUND: MUSIC BY DAVID CLAMAN AND FRIENDS Demetrius Spaneas, curator and host Cygnus Ensemble; Jed Distler; Joseph Palaka Music by David Claman and Friends - featuring New York's Cygnus Ensemble, with Bill Anderson, Oren Fader, Calvin Weirsma, and Tara O'Connor, Demetrius Spanaes and Jed Distler, Saxophone and Piano, and Special Guest, Joseph Palakal, singer The program will feature music by David Claman, informed by the music of India, as well as other recent compositions David Claman (b. 1958) hails from Denver, Colorado. He holds degrees from Wesleyan University, from the University of Colorado, and from Princeton (Ph.D. 2002). He studied Carnatic music with T. Viswanathan, T. Ranganathan, and K.S. Subramanian. His principal composition teachers have been John McDonald, Steve Mackey and Paul Lansky. He is an assistant professor at Lehman College-CUNY in The Bronx. Recordings can be found on the Innova, Capstone, Bridge, and Vox Novus labels.
